About Us

Overview

Thank you for considering us to be your partner for your digestive health needs. Huron Gastro, P.C. is an adult medical gastroenterology practice specializing in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of disorders that affect the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine (colon), rectum, liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, and pancreas. Currently, our practice includes 21 physicians who are board-certified in gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, 7 physician assistants, 2 nurse practitioners and many other clinical and administrative personnel.

The history of Huron Gastro is deeply tied to the history of gastroenterology. William A. Gracie, the practice’s founding partner, was one of the first physicians in the United States to test and use fiber-optic instruments in the diagnosis and treatment of colonic disease (colonoscopy). Dr. Gracie also studied the natural history of gallstones. The principles that he set forth in the 1970s for the management of asymptomatic gallstones are still widely accepted today.

Dr. Gracie was joined by Dr. Daniel Fall in 1972 and then by Dr. Stanley Strasius in 1975. Dr. Strasius was instrumental in refining the techniques of biliary and pancreatic endoscopic evaluation. And together, Drs. Gracie, Fall, and Strasius laid the foundation in the 1970s for what Huron Gastro is now, decades later: a thriving gastroenterology practice that holds sacred a commitment to provide compassionate care and personalized service to each and every patient that walks through its doors. Simply put, our standard is and always has been to treat patients and their families as we would treat our own families.

Office, Endoscopic, and Hospital Services

Our providers offer office-based outpatient consultative services at our two locations (Huron Gastro-Ann Arbor and Huron Gastro Endoscopy Center-Livonia) as well as our satellite locations associated with the Trinity Health System (Chelsea, Livingston, and Brighton). We value providing our patients with timely access to appointments, starting and finishing appointments on time, treatment plans that distinctively reflect our patients’ goals and expectations, and responding quickly to questions that may arise after the office visit is completed.

We provide general endoscopic services at our state-of-the-art facility -the Center for Digestive Care (Ann Arbor) and Huron Gastro Endoscopy Center (Livonia) - as well as our Chelsea, Livingston, and Brighton locations. General and advanced endoscopic services are offered at the Imaging Center within the Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital.

We have expertise in every leading-edge technology that is currently available for the practice of gastrointestinal medicine. This includes using the most updated and advanced endoscopes and colonoscopes. It also means offering a gamut of specialized gastroenterological services and technologies such as capsule endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic mucosal resection (of early-stage esophageal cancer, Barrett’s esophagus with dysplasia, and large intestinal polyps), esophageal manometry, BRAVO pH capsule, and HALO ablation.

From an endoscopic perspective, we aim to communicate to our patients the various aspects of their procedures—in a clear, open, and honest manner—before the procedure takes place. During and after the procedure, patient safety is our top priority. We employ every available precaution to reduce the risk of procedural and post-procedural complications.

Finally, each day and night our providers are available at Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital for inpatient consultations. We also provide inpatient consultative services on weekdays for Trinity Health Chelsea, Livingston, and Livonia hospitals. Our goal is to determine and execute the optimal gastrointestinal treatment plan for our hospitalized patients as well as form strong collaborations  with members of our patients’ hospital care team.

Thank you again for considering our practice for your digestive health needs. We hope that we will have the opportunity to serve you.
